S301.  WATER GUM TAPE 2"
S302. WATER GUM TAPE 3/4"

S301 or S302 Roll of water gum tape
This 25-gram non-perforated veneer tape has water activated hide glue, which is ideal for veneering. It can be cut to length, moistened with a sponge or with the tape dispenser wetting system, placed over the veneer seam or veneer area, then burnished down with a brass bristle brush to secure it firmly onto the veneer. It is used for assembly of veneer joints to make larger veneer skins or patterns. The wider tape is primarily used to reinforce larger areas of veneer prior to cutting marquetry, and re assembly of intricate marquetry work, prior to glue-up. After the gum tape is brushed onto the veneer, place the veneer skin between two platens or pieces of plywood to insure that the moisture does not warp the veneer while drying. After the veneer is glued to the core with a mechanical or vacuum press, the quickest method is to first 'scuff sanding' the panel with a 120 grit 4” X 24” belt sander to start leveling out different thickness of veneer and break through the top layer of gum tape, or by block sanding by hand with 100 grit sandpaper, to break the papers surface. Next, saturate the gum tape with water and remove the remaining tape with the tape-removing knife (see T246). This gum tape is available 3/4” and 2” wide, in 650 ft. rolls. Remember to wrap this moisture sensitive gum tape in a sealed plastic bag to preserve the shelf life, when not in use.
