Remonti Intarsiatori, Treviglio Italy, Trained in the advanced art of inlay techniques and marquetry for six months in 1989.
Journeyman Degree:
International Boat Building Training Center (IBTC UK), Lowestoft England, Completed nine month training as a boat builder, restoring and constructing new and traditional water craft. Graduated with Distinction in 1983.
Japanese Wood Joinery Seminar, NH USA, Completed 3 week intensive course covering tools and joinery techniques used by 6 Japanese master temple builders in 1981.
Gumilgen Orgel Fabrik, Bern Switzerland, Worked as journeyman- master church organ builder, designing and completing various organ building projects in 1979.
Journeyman Degree:
Neidhart und Loete Orgel Fabric, Neuchatel Switzerland, Three and one half year apprenticeship program with 12 trade masters in the art of designing, building and finishing church organs for churches and private residence throughout Europe. Graduated with honors in 1978.
Journyman Degree:
Wernli Klavier Fabrik, Bern Switzerland, One year apprentice to master craftsmen, learning piano building, repairing and tuning techniques, with emphasis on design and hand work in 1974.
Professional Experience
Schürch Woodwork, Santa Barbara California. Successfully operating custom furniture making studio since 1980 making original one of a kind pieces for designers and galleries such as Kent Galleries in NM, North West Gallery of Fine Woodworking in WA., Quatrain, William Dailey, Kalef Alaton, and C.M. Wright in CA. Currently running a training program for apprentices, and have been published in Fine Woodworking, Architectural Digest, Woodshop News, Metro Magazine, Woodworker West, Sunset Magazine, and Home and Garden. Currently teaching seminars at the Marc Adams School, William Ng School of Fine Woodworking, and various woodworking clubs and colleges in the United States, approximatly eight times per year.
Over 250 pieces of fine furniture projects completed to date.
Piti Mosaic, Florence Italy, Worked with Pietra Dure Master on small mosaic pieces in 1987.
The Boston Star Pilot, California to New York, Worked as master carpenter aboard the schooner Star Pilot to deliver her to the 1986 Tall Ships Parade New York Bicentennial Celebration. Duties included: overseeing all woodwork aboard the vessel and training two apprentices as boatbuilders in 1986.
