EDUCATION:

Remonti Intarsiatori, Treviglio Italy. 1989.
Trained in the advanced art of inlay techniques and marquetry for six months. Currently returning to Treviglio and Pietra Santa 2 to 8 weeks per year to work on new projects involving wood and stone inlay.

Wernli Klavier Fabrik, Bern Switzerland. 1974
One year apprentice to master craftsmen, learning piano building, repairing and tuning techniques, with emphasis on design
and handwork in 1974.

Japanese Wood Joinery Seminar, NH USA. 1981
Completed 3 week intensive course covering tools and joinery techniques used by 6 Japanese master temple builders.

Gumilgen Orgel Fabrik, Bern Switzerland. 1979
Worked as journeyman/ master church organ builder, designing and completing various organ building projects for two years.


JOURNEYMAN DEGREES:

Neidhart und Loete Orgel Fabric, Neuchatel Switzerland. 1978
Three and one half year apprenticeship program with 12 trade masters in the art of designing, building and finishing church organs for churches and private residences throughout Europe. Graduated with honors.

International Boat Building Training Center (IBTC UK) Lowestoft, England. 1983.
Completed one year training as a boat builder, restoring and constructing new and traditional water craft. Graduated with Distinction in


PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:

Schürch Woodwork, Santa Barbara California. 1980-Present.
Successfully operating a custom furniture making studio since 1981 making original pieces for designers and galleries such as North West Gallery of Fine Woodwork in WA, Wexler Gallery in Baltimore, Kent Galleries in New Mexico, Once a Tree Gallery, Quatrain in CA.,  including designers throughout USA and abroad. Currently involved with a woodworking training program for young adults, consulting for the woodworking industry. Produced three books and  two educational DVDs. Has been published by Lark Publications, Taunton Press, Architectural Digest, Metro, Sunset Magazine, Home and Garden and many trade journals. Currently teaching seminars at the Mark Adams School, NG, lecturing at museums, universities and various woodworking clubs across the United States about 8-10 times per year.
Overseeing the retail on-line store of Ventools, selling tools, education and supplies.

Over 290 fine furniture projects completed to date. (2010).

Worked with Pietra Dure Master on small mosaic pieces.

The Boston Star Pilot, California to New York. 1986.
-Worked as master carpenter aboard the schooner Star Pilot on one year delivery to Tall Ships 1996 CA. to NY. 
- Continued involvement in the high-end yacht, auto and aircraft industry.
